Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin was a Russian Realist painter and draughtsman, best known for his landscape subjects. One of the most notable artisans to emerge during Tsar Alexander II's reign, he was among founding members of the Peredvizhniki company. == Biography == Shishkin was born in Yelabuga, Vyatka Governorate (today Republic of Tatarstan). He came from a family of Yelabuga merchants and was the son of grain merchant Ivan Vasilyevich Shishkin. The artist’s grandfather, Vasily Afanasyevich Shishkin-Serebryakov (1764, 1827), was a palace peasant who registered as a third-guild merchant in Yelabuga in 1792.

Morning in a Pine Forest, formerly The Bear Family in the Forest, is a painting by Russian artists Ivan Shishkin and Konstantin Savitsky. According to one poll, the painting is the second most popular in Russia behind Bogatyrs (1898) by Viktor Vasnetsov. Initially, the painting, which measures 139×213 cm, did not include bears.

Rye, sometimes A Rye Field, is an oil painting finished in 1878 by the Russian painter Ivan Shishkin. It depicts a field of rye near the village of Lekarevo, west of Yelabuga in Tatarstan. It measures 107 cm × 187 cm (42 in × 74 in) and is held by the Tretyakov Gallery.
