Ramon Casas i Carbó was a Catalan artist from Spain. Living through a turbulent time in the history of his native Barcelona, Catalonia, he was known as a portraitist, sketching and painting the intellectual, economic, and political elite of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, and beyond. He was also known for his paintings of crowd scenes ranging from the audience at a bullfight to the assembly for an execution to rioters in the Barcelona streets (El garrot). Also a graphic designer, his posters and postcards helped to define the Catalan art movement known as modernisme. == Barcelona and Paris == Casas was born in Barcelona.

Casas was for the third time in Paris, in the winter of 1890, and had a joint exhibition with Santiago Rusiñol and Enric Clarasó, which lasted until 1892, and was very fruitful, for the quantity and quality of the work.

The Corpus Christi Procession Leaving the Church of Santa Maria del Mar is an oil painting by the Spanish artist Ramon Casas painted in 1898 in Barcelona and currently in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona. In 1896, an attack was carried out against the Corpus Christi procession, which had left the Church of Santa Maria del Mar of Barcelona, killing twelve people and creating panic in the city. Casas chose to paint the time of departure of the procession from the church, before passing on the Canvis Nous street, where the attack took place.
